The thought of you / Lovin’ someone new / I just can’t fathom / No one like you / Your love was all I knew
Jake Miller, “Parade”
Jake Miller has officially made his return with his new EP, Overnight.
As I mentioned in my review of his single, “Overnight,” this music is a departure from the Jake that his Millertary came to know and love. He’s always been able to sing, but his past projects focused on rap.
Overnight is a 7-track pop/R&B project with just enough synth to make the mix interesting. As with “Overnight,” though, sometimes I feel as if I don’t hear Jake’s vocals above the mix as often as I’d like.
Other than that, though, Overnight is a solid EP. It’s a nice balance between radio-worthy tracks and ones that are a little more brooding.
My favorite is somewhere between “Parade” and “Tell Me You Love It.” The latter has a beat that’s a bit like Motown with a modern spin. “Superhuman” is another one that stands out; its beat has a spacey, otherworldly feel that I really like.
